What would I be doing in this role at Desire2Learn?
Desire2Learn creates industry-leading web-based enterprise e-Learning systems as well as direct-to-consumer web and mobile apps. Our applications deliver material to millions of users worldwide every day.
As a superstar manager, you will drive your product team to provide an on time delivery of quality products and services. You will manage the completion of short and long term team goals by setting the standards across the team.
You already possess positive leadership skills in a software development environment. You enable your creative teams to thrive steering them to success. Your team will consist of high performing developers, designers, and QA. You will assist your staff in setting personal goals and ensure team objectives are met or exceeded. Your ability to effectively communicate within your team and externally is paramount.
You will ensure the success of each development process by proactively planning and monitoring and take corrective actions to adjust for any risks and changes. You will report to, and work with the Engineering Director to understand the expectations of the team as well bringing needs from the team to the Director as well.
What would my main duties be?
You will oversee/perform the following tasks:
- Work with the team project manager, and guide the Agile process with the Technical Product Manager
- Coach and guide career development for your team by establishing and maintaining professional development plans
- Perform regular performance reviews, providing team members an awareness of current performance
- Manage all aspects of engineering projects including design, allocation, project management, completion and documentation
- Participate in recruitment activities, such as career fairs, resume screening, interviews and offer preparation
- Encourage cross-team knowledge sharing

Required professional skills
- 8+ years in-depth technical skills in the software industry and awareness of the process and technologies required to deliver high quality innovative solutions
- 2+ years People Leadership - Ability to drive and motivate team to success
- 2+ years Project Management Skills - Ability to provide day to day tactical direction to the team (Agile or other project methodologies)
- Understanding of business operations and processes outside of the software delivery process
- Advanced level usage of Microsoft Office
Education Recommendations
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent required, in a technical field such as computer science, math, information systems
- SCRUM master training is an asset
