Enterprise Architect

General Description:
Desire2Learn is looking for people to join our Enterprise Architecture team providing enterprise level architectural direction for our world class, large-scale, component-based applications. This includes developing functional and technical requirements and seeing them through application development and implementation. Their responsibilities include:
- Scalability and performance
- Security
- Extensibility and maintainability
- Adoption of protocols and standards
- Deployment and configuration
Special focus will be placed on the Security and Scalability for our products and the assurance of each. They will manage the various security and scalability related aspects of the application design and architecture.
They must understand the SDLC and have experience with formal project methodologies. They will work with all of the departments within the company, but most closely with the development teams, product management and project management.
Successful candidates will have:
- Excellent knowledge of OOA/D, design patterns, enterprise patterns
- A good understanding of the SDLC and software configuration management
- A passion for technology
- A very strong interest in highly secure and scalable designs
- Experience working with current and emerging information security technologies and development methodologies
- Experience with information technology security, trends, leading practices, and regulatory and industry standard compliance issues
- Strong organization and planning skills
- Experience with secure coding practices, threat modeling, vulnerability assessment
- Experience with security architecture related to protocols such as SNMP, HTTP, SOAP, SOA, Web Services
- Good written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively across project teams.

Main Duties:
- Providing Security Subject Matter Expertise and architectural and technical guidance to product security design.
- Planning and implementing secure coding practices.
- Estimate resource requirements for security-related portions of projects presented by project managers
- Reviewing application designs and code submitted by members of various teams.
- Security and scalability testing methodology and drive the testing of these aspects of our products
- Security Process Creation
- Project Estimation.
- Risk management through identifying vulnerabilities and tracking / driving their mitigation.
- Design and increase the adoption of security-related processes, including Threat Modeling, Defect Resolution, etc.
- Test and evaluate security related tools
- Manage 3rd party vendors to meet goals above
- Assist Senior Management in defining the overall information security strategy.
- Monitor information security news and keep abreast of events, research, and developments.
- Ensure appropriate knowledge transfer to enable technology teams to design and implement appropriate safeguards.
- Develop training and awareness materials to help teach secure and scalable development practices to teams of mostly C#.NET developers.
Work Experience Recommendations:
- 10+ years of experience in software development
- 5+ years of experience in software architecture
- 5+ years of experience with enterprise web applications
- 3+ years of experience with information security
- Experience with .NET, C#, SQL Server 2005 and 2008
- Experience in the development of large scale commercial applications is considered an asset
Education Recommendations:
- Certifications Given Priority:
- CISSP, CSSLP, SSCP, SANS, GIAC, GSEC, MCSA/MCSE:Security (Microsoft)
- Bachelors of computer science or a related field
- Masters or PhD in computer science is considered an asset
