Desire2Learn makes industry-leading web-based enterprise eLearning systems. Our products are used by hundreds of clients to deliver accredited courses for both on-campus and distance education programs. Our applications deliver material to millions of users worldwide every single day.
We are looking for an Architect to manage the development of products for Desire2Learn. We want visionaries capable of bringing their vision to reality. As a project manager, this will be someone who can guide a software development team, managing people, quality and costs. As a technical guru they will direct the technology, balancing functionality with performance, maintainability and security.
Successful candidates will have:
- Exceptional design skills, including OOA/D using patterns, and RDBMS design
- A sound understanding of the SDLC and experience delivering software projects
- Excellent leadership and decision making abilities
- Experience in a project management capacity
- Strong organizational and planning skills
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- A passion for technology

Location: Moncton, New Brunswick
Main Duties:
- Developing the high-level architecture for enterprise eLearning applications
- Reviewing and approving technical designs (system, component, class, database, etc.)
- Providing technical guidance and advice to senior managers and project team
- Leading a software development team, managing people and resources
- Creating and updating project plans and estimates
- Identifying and communicating issues and risks
- Reporting on project status to management and clients
- Meeting with clients and partners as required
- Participating in standards bodies as required
Work Experience Recommendations:
- 10+ years of experience in software development
- 5+ years of experience in software architecture
- 5+ years of experience with large-scale web applications
- 5+ years of experience in a leadership role
- 5+ years of experience with formal development methodologies and project management practices
- 3+ years of experience with .NET, C#, SQL Server 2000 and 2005
- Experience in the development of commercial applications is considered an asset
Education Recommendations:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field
- Masters or PHD in computer science is considered an asset
