Program Manager (Ref #D2LPRGM2010)

General Description:

The Program Manager is responsible for the overall quality of work and efficient operation of a product team. The Program Manager has project management responsibility on all projects for a designated product team(s). He/she is required to review, revise and implement policies and procedures as required to meet these objectives. He/she will also be responsible for managing the resources within the product team, continually ensuring that the team has the proper individuals and skill sets in place and that they are optimally allocated. The Program Manager is responsible for communication between this team and the rest of the organization. He/she plays an advisory role to the Director, Product Strategy and executes provided directives.

Location: Kitchener, Ontario

Main Duties:

  • Coordinates multiple related projects and ongoing operations directed toward a common objective
  • Monitors cost, schedule, and technical performance of component projects and operations
  • Ensures the overall success of the program
  • Determines and coordinates the sharing of resources among constituent projects to the overall benefit of the program
  • Responsible for external stakeholder management
  • Establishes and maintains departmental polices, procedures and goals
  • Collects and summarizes departmental metrics
  • Communicates the team's status to the rest of the organization
  • Assigns work within the team; allocates resources
  • Performs resource planning; ensures staffing requirements are met
  • Provides input for hiring decisions within the team
  • Responsible for performance evaluations within the team
  • Responsible for mentoring and department-specific training
  • Ensures that the needs of the team are met
  • Addresses concerns from within the team

Work Experience Recommendations:

  • At least five years of Project Management experience managing technical personnel
  • At least seven to ten years in a software development environment

Education Recommendations:

  • Bachelors degree or equivalent in business management, computer science or a related field
  • Masters of Business Administration (MBA) preferred
  • Certified Project Management Professional
