General Description:
The Lead Quality Assurance Analyst helps improve and maintain product and process quality. The successful candidate will apply proven analytical and problem-solving skills to help validate the implementation of products against functional and technical specifications and assist other members of the QA teams through careful planning and testing.
The Lead QA Analyst will facilitate the Quality Assurance Community of Practice, by bringing together and taking requirements from various functional and technical skilled staff that have a vested interest in increasing the knowledge and efficiencies surrounding quality assurance performed at Desire2Learn. This individual must be able to balance their business and technical knowledge and be comfortable working in a matrix environment with Product Managers, Designers, Developers and Quality Assurance staff to determine appropriate testing approaches. This position requires a person that is considered a hands-on leader that can inspire, mentor and do.

Main Duties:
- Develop, define and document the Quality Plan, including quality policies, standards and validation techniques throughout the system development life cycle for internal, product and client projects
- Recommend strategies to introduce, implement and maintain automated test data and processes within product teams for tracking and reporting, regression, performance, stress and load testing
- Establish metrics to monitor and report on quality of products, processes, testing activities and software being developed and implemented into production
- Recommend ways to improve software/system quality pre and post release
- Handle quality assurance escalations as part of consulting responsibilities (on call may be a requirement of this position)
- Manage and execute quality assurance analyst project tasks as required
- Writes test plans, test cases and test scripts for tracking defects and fixes.
- Conducts Functional, Integration, Regression, UAT testing.
- Tests and certifies software defect fixes and new functionality and reviews test summary reports
- Manages testing schedules
- Assists Product Support with analysis and verification of software defects reported to determine validity and clarification.
- Analyzes and documents test results and makes recommendations.
- Creates and maintains quality system documents and records, e.g. flowcharts, procedures, forms, templates, spreadsheets, presentations.
Work Experience Recommendations:
- 3+ years mentoring/coaching Quality Assurance staff in a matrix organization (both onsite and remote)
- 7+ years hands-on experience in software testing
- Experience with web environment/infrastructure/delivery requirements to deliver products for product testing and for final release to clients, including configuration management
- Experience with the start up, management and on-going administration of automated testing tools for developers and quality assurance
- Knowledge and experience in the use of case tools and data query tools to aid in the development and management of test cases
- Practical XML, SQL, and MS Office toolkit experience
- Able to thrive in a fast-paced, detail oriented, and high-pressured environment
- Strong analytical skills
- Excellent communication skills
- Experience and substantial involvement with Project and SDLC Methodologies
Education Recommendations:
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science or related technical field
