Solutions Architect

General Description:
The Solutions Architect has responsibility for obtaining business and technical requirements to further the development of holistic Desire2Learn solutions designed to address identified needs across multiple industry verticals. Based on those requirements, the architect will envision a solution, identify gaps and provide recommendations to product development, services and partners, ultimately translating the design into an executable solution. The solution architect understands the big picture, business functions and the strategic goals that the new solution must address, knowing when to apply creativity, business acumen and industry best practices to a given problem.

Location: Kitchener, Ontario
Main Duties:
- As a member of the solutions team, determine client requirements and translate requirements into a solution design;
- Responsible for gathering, analyzing and scoping customer requirements;
- Technical analysis, design, development, review and approval of solution designs;
- Participate in the business development process by identifying business opportunities and architecting solutions to solve problems;
- Assist in the identification and analysis of competitive offerings in the solution space;
- Work with cross-departmental stakeholders to facilitate the design and development of the solution;
- Involvement in Solutions Steering Committee;
- Develop expertise in Desire2Learn product capabilities, including architecture, functionality, usage, and deployment methodologies;
- Identify and present technical features, competitive advantages and business benefits of Desire2Learn technology;
- Provide support and training to other departments on the sale and implementation of solution offerings;
- Support the development of messaging and collateral related to the proposed solution;
- Some travel to client sites may be required.
Work Experience and Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 years experience in software project delivery and solutions architecture
- Proven experience in a technical leadership role
- Demonstrated consulting and solutions design experience (internal or external)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Able to communicate information and issues clearly and succinctly with both technical and non-technical colleagues and clients.
- Deep knowledge of technical issues, software architecture concepts and software development life cycle
- Excellent problem solving skills
- Ability to learn new concepts and processes quickly
- Ability to work independently or effectively as part of a team
- Ability to work under tight deadlines
- Ability to work on multiple tasks at one time and reprioritize tasks as necessary
- Strong knowledge of :
- Database management, including SQL and relational concepts
- Deep knowledge of web technologies
- Fluency in a second language would be considered an asset
- Experience with Learning Management Systems would be considered an asset
Education Recommendations:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Applied Science or Engineering
- Business degree or certificate is an asset
- Microsoft Certifications would be considered an asset (MCSD, MCSE, etc)
