Technical Product Manager (Ref #D2LTPM2008)

General Description:

The Technical Product Manager (TPM) is responsible for defining market requirements and packaging appropriate features into product releases. The position involves close interaction with other Product Managers, Product Designers, Development Leads, Product Architects, and key customers.

A strong interest in technology and its application towards solving market problems is required. They will work closely with Product Marketing Managers to ensure that marketing programs align with the value propositions for a given product.

Location: Kitchener, Ontario

Main Duties:

  • Assess new technologies and determine how to utilize them to improve product lines
  • Conduct competitive analysis relative to feature sets, underlying technology, product workflow, usability, etc. to establish technical differentiation and feature/benefit statements
  • Solicit customer, prospect and partner input (via customer calls, user groups, site visits, tradeshows, surveys, win/loss analyses, etc.) to understand market challenges and requirements
  • Gather requirements from prospects, evaluators and customers
  • Write marketing requirements documents
  • Ensure product design reflects business objectives
  • Monitor the implementation of a product project
  • Monitor and assess industry standards and innovations
  • Define and work with user personas
  • Create product contracts with development teams
  • Write market requirements
  • Identify potential new market opportunities within the company's distinctive technical competence
  • Provide direction to product development relating to prioritization of projects
  • Be the Product Champion! Instil a sense of excitement about our products within the organization, and the eLearning community as a whole

Work Experience Requirements:

  • 5+ years experience in a product management or related role
  • Proven ability to deliver successful, market-driven products in an efficient and profitable manner
  • Well versed in Project Management methodologies
  • Solid understanding of software engineering and web development
  • Good business analysis skills and the ability to extract requirements via interfacing with the customer
  • Must be passionate and charismatic and be able to instil those qualities in others, both internally and externally
  • Knowledge of the education industry an asset

Education Recommendations:

  • Bachelor's degree is required, preferably with emphasis on Business or Computer Science
  • MBA is an asset
