Windows System Administrator (Ref #D2LWSA2009)
General Description:
The main responsibility of the Windows System Administrator is general and advanced Windows Server system administration and key projects relating to the Desire2Learn SaaS environment and internal infrastructure.

Main Duties:
- General Windows Server system management and administration tasks:
- Daily event log reviews
- Use of Microsoft Systems Center Operations Manager or other similar tools for day to day management and monitoring tasks
- Active Directory management and updates
- Basic performance and tuning analysis of both internal/external Windows Services
- Use and creation of basic GPO's for Active Directory management to enforce corporate policies and standards
- Configuration, management, and support of the following:
- Print and file services
- IIS 6.X or higher
- Terminal Services
- Microsoft Windows 2003, File, Web, and SQL Clusters
- SharePoint, Exchange, and other related MSFT products
- Configuration and management of centralized Antivirus, AntiSpyWare, and SPAM filters
- Response to internal/external production environment issues or requests escalated from Level 1/2 Desktop/server resources or the Implementation Services team
- Management and support of the D2LHQ/QA/Development and other internal domains
- Involvement as a key senior resource on internal project teams for critical applications or escalated internal support.
- Detailed involvement in the development/planning/execution of new IT policies and infrastructure projects
- Internal consulting with Product Development and Professional Services divisions on key projects
- The above outlined duties with main focus on core production services within the Desire2Learn Hosting Facilities and HQ Data Centre.
- Involvement as a key senior resource on internal project teams for critical applications or escalated internal support.
- Detailed involvement in the development/planning/execution of new IT Policies and infrastructure projects
- Internal consulting with Product Development & Professional Services divisions on key projects
- On-call rotation is a requirement of this role
Work Experience Recommendations:
- 5+ years of Windows Server management experience in an environment of 100+ Windows 2000/2003 servers and 300 - 600 users or more.
- 3+ years of experience in a mission critical environment with change control procedures
- 2+ years experience using ticket management systems such as (but not limited to) Remedy, or HEAT utilizing basic ITIL processes
- 3+ years experience managing Active Directory objects using GPO
- 3+ years experience managing Microsoft Server 2X Clusters
- 2+ years Microsoft DNS management
- 2+ years Multi-domain or complex AD environment management experience required
- 3+ years in-depth knowledge and experience using IIS 5/6.X
- 3+ years Mission critical service management experience required
Assets:
- Experience working with Identity Management solutions
- VMWare experience or training
- F5 experience
- Linux or Unix experience/training
- BIND DNS management experience/training
- Ethernet Network management experience (Layer 3-7)
- SQL/Oracle server administration/programming experience/training
Education Recommendations:
- Technical diploma/degree in a related field required
- HP/EMC Storage training or certification an Asset
- Current Microsoft Certification recommended (MCSA/MCSE)
- Project management training/certification required
- Current VMWare certification an asset
- Current F5 certification an asset
