Desire2Learn Advances Mobile App Creation Platform
Desire2Learn releases a new version of Desire2Learn Campus Life, a platform and website for building mobile apps, with enhanced usabilityKitchener-Waterloo, ON and Philadelphia, PA, October 19, 2011
Desire2Learn Incorporated (“Desire2Learn”), a leading provider of enterprise teaching and learning platforms, today announced the release of a new version of Desire2Learn Campus Life. This new version features enhanced usability improvements that make designing mobile apps easy and accessible to everyone.
The Desire2Learn Campus Life platform provides institutions with the ability to create a branded mobile experience for student and faculty. Institutions can create their own mobile apps for iOS, Android and BlackBerry devices on the Campus Life website and deliver them straight to students through app stores. The app creation process is highly visual and intuitive and does not require coding or technical expertise.
Advances in this release include:
- Campus Life Visual Designer – A design tool where users can drag-and-drop features and modules on to a prototype of the mobile app, exactly as it would appear on a mobile device.
- Campus Life Release Dashboard – A visual summary displaying the build and approval status of your mobile apps on the app stores. It also provides conveniences for reviewing and testing the app, including one-click emails to testers with download links, automatically generated QR codes, and a history of past releases.
- Redesigned Android UI – A new visual theme and user interface for Android has been released, replacing the classic theme from past versions. This provides a totally redesigned user interface with support for multiple pages, image previews and thumbnails throughout, and support for PDF and other popular document formats.
“Desire2Learn Campus Life is easier to use than ever,” says David Kruis, Director of Mobile Strategy, Desire2Learn. “We’ve put a strong focus on making the technology accessible, intuitive and cost-effective for our clients.”
The new version of Desire2Learn Campus Life was used to construct Desire2Learn @ EDUCAUSE 2011, a companion app for the leading higher education conference. This application features demos of Desire2Learn’s products, information on workshops and events being run by Desire2Learn at the conference, as well as live feeds, pictures and videos being taken at the conference. The Desire2Learn @ EDUCAUSE 2011 app can be downloaded from the Apple App Store, BlackBerry App World and Android Market.
“Building the Desire2Learn @ EDUCAUSE app was simple and straight-forward,” states John McLeod, Senior Director of Marketing, Desire2Learn. “It freed the team to focus on our content and message. We were able to design, prototype, test and repeat at a rapid pace to build a top-grade conference app.”
Some features, such as Campus Life Visual Designer, have already been released; other features will be made available in November.
