Now entering its fifth year, Waterloo Area’s Top Employers is an annual competition organized by the editors of Canada’s Top 100 Employers. This special designation recognizes the employers in the Kitchener-Waterloo and Guelph area that lead their industries in offering exceptional places to work.

Selection Process

Employers are evaluated by the editors of Canada’s Top 100 Employers using the same eight criteria as the national competition: (1) Physical Workplace; (2) Work & Social Atmosphere; (3) Health, Financial & Family Benefits; (4) Vacation & Time Off; (5) Employee Communications; (6) Performance Management; (7) Training & Skills Development; and (8) Community Involvement. Employers are compared to other organizations in their field to determine which offer the most progressive and forward-thinking programs.

The detailed Reasons for Selection, explaining why Desire2Learn was chosen, are published on Eluta.ca and include:

  • helping prepare employees for retirement with matching RSP contributions (up to 4% of salary) and phased-in retirement work options
  • letting employees share in the company’s success with year-end bonuses and a profit sharing plan available to all employees
  • encouragement of ongoing employee development with tuition subsidies, financial bonuses for course completion, subsidies for professional accreditation, and a variety of in-house and online training programs
  • offering employees flexible work scheduling options including telecommuting and shortened work week (fewer hours with less pay)
