Desire2Learn Incorporated (“Desire2Learn”), a leading provider of enterprise teaching and learning platforms, today announced the recipient of the third annual Desire2Learn Award for Student Innovation. The 2011 winner is Alexandria Bear, a graduating student of Conestoga College’s Public Relations diploma program.
The Desire2Learn Award for Student Innovation is presented to a convocating Conestoga College Public Relations diploma student with a strong curiosity for learning in school, work and life. This year, the Public Relations faculty developed a short-list of six students who fittingly demonstrated the greatest interest to learn, exemplified by a high degree of creativity and intellectual curiosity. Once faculty factored in students’ performance on two of the program’s most innovative and challenging projects, Bear was chosen as the 2011 award recipient.
“Alexandria exemplifies creative leadership and has a stellar ability to discover innovative solutions,” states Paula Barrett, Professor, Public Relations Program, Conestoga College. “She is an enthusiastic and eager student with a strong appetite for learning. We are pleased to offer her this award with sponsorship from Desire2Learn.”

Originally from St. Thomas, Ontario, Alexandria has a long-held passion for creative writing and the dramatic arts. While she once thought her career path would take her into the world of broadcasting, she was drawn to explore the field of Public Relations by the encouraging faculty at Conestoga College.
“It is an honour to be the 2011 recipient of the Desire2Learn Award for Student Innovation,” remarks Bear. “In public relations, we work to educate and constantly innovate to reach people in the most accessible ways. To be recognized for creativity and innovation is the highest honour since that is what all public relations professionals are ultimately striving for.”
“Alexandria’s creativity, innovation and collaborative spirit align perfectly with the values of Desire2Learn,” says John McLeod, Sr. Director of Marketing, Desire2Learn. “It is a distinct pleasure to acknowledge Alexandria with this award. We wish her every success in her public relations career.”
