In addition to the delivery of rich content, the comprehensive and easy-to-use toolset found in Desire2Learn® Learning Environment provides everything you need to design, develop, and deliver quality courses. Extensive functionality enables you to easily incorporate instructional design best practices to align assessments and learning experiences with course objectives.
The drag and drop homepage and navigation management tools let you pick from a number of different layouts which can be customized by course, with engaging fonts, graphics, colors and background imagery, with useful links and widgets.
A sleek navigation bar is found at the top of every page. This minibar enables learners to switch between courses; navigate to organization and course home pages; access account settings such as Profile and Preferences; and receive alerts specific to their system activity, such as grade releases or news feed updates. The minibar also provides branding opportunities for color and logo.
By leveraging an instructional design framework and building on competencies and other system tools, the Instructional Design Wizard walks through the creation of pedagogically-sound courses containing a variety of learning experiences focused on appropriate learning levels. It promotes an effective course structure, and ensures the alignment of content and assessment with instructional strategies and course objectives.
Through an intuitive and accessible drag-and-drop interface, Course Builder organizes and manages the development of a course, its lessons, and its materials, building on the course blueprint provided by the Instructional Design Wizard. Its integration with Learning Environment tools provides a seamless experience for creating items and associating them with one another from one interface, providing a consolidated view of the course.
Embedding media in your courses has never been easier with the Desire2Learn Insert Stuff framework (ISF). Flash, audio, and video can be easily inserted from your computer or instantly embedded from Capture, Flickr, YouTube, and Vimeo. Insert Stuff lets you search for media directly from the Learning Environment and supports Creative Commons image filtering on Flickr.
The Calendar tool provides administrators, instructors and learners with a variety of options for managing their calendar in a single environment; including the creation, printing and viewing of a clear timeline of course events, maximizing efficiency, and minimizing time spent managing tasks.
The Classlist provides information on users currently enrolled in the class, access to common tasks for user enrollment and management, the ability to contact users easily through email or instant messaging, and provides a report on add/drops along with last login detail.
Built into Learning Environment are powerful Intelligent Agents that can enable recognition of user achievements and identify at-risk users. Learners and other interested parties receive notifications that share milestones or recommend actions to ensure future success.
With release conditions, instructors are able to create custom learning paths through the materials in a course providing a more guided learning experience for their learners. Once a release condition is attached to an item, learners cannot see that item until they meet the associated condition.
The User Progress tool acts as an all-in-one view of all interactions users have with a course. Usage patterns help compare the progress of a specific user to that of their peers. This also allows for users to see how they stack up against the rest of their class.
